Bisi Bele Bath

Bisi Bele Bath: Bisi Bele Bath is a spicy rice based dish. Its origin can be traced back to the state of Karnataka. This dish is simply delicious & can be enjoyed for lunch or dinner.
I am sharing with you all the recipe of Bisi Bele Bath.


Ingredients -
- 1 cup rice
- 1/2 cup toor dal

- 20 Shallots
- 2 drumstick
- 1/4 kg red pumpkin
- 1 carrot
- 1 capsicum
- 1 potato
- 10 french beans
- 1/2 cup green peas

- 2 spoon Bisi Bele Bath Masala Powder
- 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
- 1/2 teaspoon asafoetida powder
- 1 lemon sized tamarind pulp
- 1 spoon powdered jaggery

For tempering:
- 6 spoon ghee
- 10 cashew nuts
- 6-7 curry leaves
- 1/2 teaspoon mustard seeds
- 1/2 teaspoon cumin seeds
- 1/2 teaspoon urad dal

Method:
1. Soak the tamarind in 1/2cup warm water for about 20mins.

2. Wash the rice and dal 2times and cook it together in a pressure cooker for about 5-6 whistles by adding 4cups of water to it.

3. By the time cut all the vegetables and keep it ready for cooking.
(Cut french beans and drumstick into 2inch sticks and rest all other vegetables into medium sized cubes)

4. Take a pan and add 2 spoon ghee, once the ghee is hot add shallots and saute it for about 2mins and then add all the chopped vegetables (red pumpkin, carrot, capsicum, drumstick potato, french beans, green peas) and saute it for 4mins by adding required amount of salt to it.

5. Next add one cup water, a pinch of turmeric powder, asafoetida powder and cook all the vegetables for 10mins or till it becomes soft.

6. Next extract  tamarind juice from the tamarind that you have soaked earlier and add the juice into the pan, jaggery powder and cook for about 5-6mins or till the raw smell of the tamarind is no more.

7. Next add Bisi Bele Bath masala powder and give the mixture a good mix and allow it to cook for about 4-5mins.

8. By the time take out the cooked rice and dal from the cooker and mash it nicely with a spoon to make it mushy.

9. Add the mashed rice and dal into the pan along with the vegetables and give it a good mix. Make sure there are no lumps and add more water if required as we want this Bisi Bele Bath in a semi solid consistency.

10. Once the mixing is done, take another pan add 4spoon ghee into it. Once the ghee is hot mustard seeds and wait til it splutters. Next add cumin seeds, urad dal, curry leaves, broken cashews and fry till the cashews turn into golden brown in colour.

11. Add the tempering into the Bisi Bele Bath and give it a mix and switch off the flame.

12. Serve Bisi Bele Bath hot by garnishing it with freshly chopped coriander leaves and crispy boondi.
