Ragi Dhokla

Ragi Dhokla - Dhokla is a healthy  gujarati Savoury dish. Here,I am using Finger Millet(Ragi) for making this Dhokla.

Ragi has many essential health benefits but its usage in our diet is very less.

But including it regularly will improve your immune system.

You might wonder how this Ragi Dhokla will taste, but I can tell you for sure that not only Ragi tops the nutritional  chart but also it increases the taste of the dish.

In south India, one can see Ragi being used traditionally  to make porridge,Kali or Mudde..

Nowadays, knowing its nutritional values many dishes are prepared using Ragi.

Ingredients -

- 1 cup Ragi flour

- 1/2 cup poha (flattened rice)

- 1 small carrot

- 1 capsicum

- 1 cucumber

- 2 green chilli

- 1 spoon ginger garlic paste

- 1/2 teaspoon asafoetida

- 1/4 cup boiled corn kernels

- 1/2 cup curd

- 1/2 spoon baking soda (Eno)

- 1 spoon sugar powder

- 2 spoon roasted white sesame seeds

- 1 spoon butter/ghee

Method -

1. Grate all the vegetables (carrot, capsicum, cucumber) using a grater and then finely chop the green chillies.

2. Take a mixing bowl, add the ragi flour, poha, grated vegetables, roasted sesame seeds, ginger garlic paste, curd, salt, asafoetida, sugar powder and give the mixture a good mix. (Check the consistency of the batter, it should be like a thick cake batter)

3. If required then only add water.

4. Pre-heat a kadai/oven for about 10mins and by the time add baking soda (Eno) into the batter and mix it gently.

5. Next, grease a cake tin/any round shaped vessel of your choice with butter/ghee and pour the batter into it and then top it with corn kernels.

6. Now place the cake tin in a kadai/oven and bake the mixture for about 35-40 mins.

7. After 35-40 mins check whether the Ragi dhokla is fully cooked by inserting a toothpick into it. If the toothpick comes out clean then switch off the flame or else cook for more 5-10 mins.

7. Allow the ragi dhokla to cool down a bit and then cut it into triangles and serve it with green chutney/fresh curd.

Note :

I have used a combination of grated cucumber, carrot and capsicum but you can add some other vegetables in Ragi dhokla like grated cabbage, bottle gourd, beetroot, boiled green peas and so on of your choice.

Do try this healthy recipe and share it with your friends and family.
