Homemade Garam Masala Recipe
Garam masala is the soul of Indian cooking—a fragrant blend that enhances flavors in every dish. Making it at home ensures pure, preservative-free goodness. Let's get started!
Ingredients:
- 3/4 cup coriander seeds
- 1/2 cup cumin seeds
- 2 tsp pepper
- 4 dried red chillies
- 5 star anise
- 4 inch cinnamon sticks
- 2 mace
- 5 black cardamom
- 2 full nutmeg
- 3 tsp green cardamom
- 1 tsp clove
- 2 tsp fennel seeds
- 5 bay leaves
- 1 tsp ginger powder

Method:
1. Heat a pan on low flame, add coriander seeds, and dry roast them until aromatic and slightly darker in color. Remove and set aside.

2. Next, add cumin seeds in the same pan. Roast them until they turn golden and fragrant. Remove and set aside.

3. Now, roast rest of the Spices In the same pan, add pepper, dried red chillies, star anise, cinnamon, mace, black cardamom, cloves, fennel seeds, and bay leaves. Dry roast for 4-5 minutes until they release their aromatic oils. Stir occasionally to prevent burning.

4. Transfer all the roasted spices onto a plate and let them cool completely. Break the nutmeg into smaller pieces before grinding. Grind everything into a fine powder using a mixer grinder. 

5. Mix in the ginger powder, ensuring an even blend. Store the garam masala in an airtight container for lasting freshness.

Storage Tips:
Keep garam masala in an airtight container in a cool, dry place. It stays fresh for up to 6 months when stored properly.
